ARC Director, Dr. Margot Kushel Earns 2025 Paul Nathanson Advocate Award!

Faculty

UCSF ARC For Health Equity Director Margot Kushel, MD, will be awarded the 2025 Paul Nathanson Advocate Award from Justice in Aging, on April 29.

As founder and Director of the UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative, Dr. Kushel’s research informs the development of programs and policies to end homelessness via understanding the complex interactions between health and housing. Her work focuses on reducing the burden of homelessness on health through examining efforts to prevent and end homelessness and mitigating the effects of housing instability on health care outcomes, with a particular interest in homelessness in older adults and homelessness in medically complicated individuals.

From BHHI, "Dr. Kushel’s work has reshaped how we understand the intersection of homelessness, health, and aging—grounded in the evidence that homelessness stems from policy decisions, not personal failings. Her research has highlighted the disproportionate impact on older adults and provided a roadmap for clear, equity-focused solutions."
