Dr. Melanie Molina Earns Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program Award!
ARC for Health Equity Mentored Faculty Member, Melanie Molina, MD, MAS, is the recipient of a Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program (AMFDP) Award.
The four-year award will support Dr. Molina’s project, “Developing EHR-Enabled Interventions to Overcome Social Risk Limitations in the Emergency Department (ED).” Through this project, Dr. Molina aims to develop ED-based, electronic health record-enabled tools to address patient social risks with minimal impact on clinician workflow.
The AMFDP — sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) — offers four-year postdoctoral research awards to faculty from historically marginalized backgrounds who can achieve senior rank in academic medicine, dentistry, or nursing. It was created to "support the development of faculty to enhance their influence as leaders, researchers, and advisors in supporting a Culture of Health, in which everyone has the chance to live the healthiest life possible." The AMFDP recognizes only about 10 scholars annually.
Dr/ Molina's commitment to mitigate disparities in health care access, improve comprehensive emergency care for historically marginalized populations, and to create a safe and equitable environment in the field of emergency medicine are necessary and appreciated.
Aside from being an ARC for Health Equity Mentored Faculty member, Dr. Molina is also is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCSF and Affiliated Faculty at the UCSF Institute for Health Policy Studies. She works clinically as an emergency physician at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and UCSF Medical Center, and as a health services researcher within the UCSF School of Medicine.
Congratulations, Dr. Molina!
