Dr. Oanh Nguyen Examines Guaranteed Income and Housing Stability in Grand Rounds Lecture
Housing insecurity remains a major issue in the Bay Area, as it is in many parts of the country. Could providing a financial safety net help?
ARC Core Faculty member and implementation science expert Oanh Nguyen, MD, MAS, explored the current evidence and evaluated the relationship between guaranteed income and secure housing outcomes in Medical Grand Rounds for UCSF’s Department of Medicine. Dr. Nguyen provided attendees with a critical look at the methodologies of existing studies through an evidence-based lens to view the topic’s national and local debate.
In 2022 Dr. Nguyen became principal investigator of the Silicon Valley Guaranteed Income Project, a randomized controlled trial assessing the effectiveness of cash assistance on improving housing stability and health among 300 homeless Bay Area families—one of the few guaranteed income projects to specifically focus on unhoused and marginalized families.
