School Segregation Harms Black Children's Health and Well-Being
Cardio vascular disease, increased alcohol use, and general poor well-being are enduring results of school racial segregation on Black youth. Researchers from the University of California at San Francisco, Stanford, and led by CVP's Dr. Rita Hamad have published findings that suggest associate school segregation with poorer self-rated health and increased binge drinking among Black adults. I’m excited to welcome a new Core Faculty member to the CVP, Dr. Hemal Kanzaria, who is an Associate Professor in Emergency Medicine at ZSFG. Hemal, among other things, plays a key role in the BHHI, as one of the co-leads on our robust program on complex needs individuals, and is co-lead of the use of local data team.
