ASSOC PROF IN RES-HCOMP

I am an Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology based in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco where my research has focused on improving access to and quality of tuberculosis (TB) care, and now COVID-19 care, for vulnerable populations. My research has highlighted the central importance of patient and health system barriers to quality of TB care in high burden settings. My portfolio leverages methods in implementation research, social epidemiology, modelling, and health economics that will allow us to better study and understand these barriers to care as well as to provide tools to support national TB programs and departments of public health with the design and implementation of interventions that curb these barriers. My research background is enhanced by my experience working with Global TB Programme of the World Health Organization. I have also served as a public health advisor for USAID with a focus on health system strengthening and with the California Department of Public Health and their team lead for modeling and analytics during the COVID-19 response. I also direct the UCSF Implementation Science Training Program. I serve as an attending physician on the Pulmonary Consult Service, in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, and in the Department of Public Health Tuberculosis Clinic at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
